Did you hear the news? Starlight bells are ringing and a brand new outfit has hit the stores - the Far Northern Attire, complete with tunic, gloves, bottoms, and boots. And a headpiece.

However, do you see what’s missing in that official picture up there? A Viera. And if a Viera had managed to show up for that particular photo shoot, do you know what would still be missing? A Viera wearing a hat.

It’s been a problem since we arrived here in Eorzea, and it’s one that continues to this day: Crafters refuse to make hats suitable for Viera ears. Yes, we can wear some headgear, the occasional hooded robe. Flowers and earrings and masks. But when it comes to hats, even brand new ones that are, quite frankly, a little pricey, we still find ourselves in the Land that Hats Forgot.

Babbit Alaisa not wearing a hat

Originally, we had assumed it was a matter of convenience. Well, we thought, the older hats were already made and designed for non-Viera, so it made sense that they wouldn’t suddenly be available for us. (Although, how hard can it be to cut two holes into a piece of cloth?) But new hats? Newly designed products for a new and more diverse consumer base, including Viera and Hrothgar? What is the excuse? Why do we continue to be left behind?

Could we at least get a discount for the rest of the outfit?

I’m content without a hat. I like wearing colored flowers or even just a pair of glasses, and my ears stand on their own. They don’t need to be covered! And yet, this pattern is hard to ignore. The continued absence of headwear choices for Viera, and yes Hrothgar, certainly stands out.

What are we to do? Continue to wait, I suppose. Perhaps there’s an issue behind the scenes preventing Viera headwear from making it to market. Perhaps it is difficult to make one-size-fits-all hats for everyone. But if that’s the case, would it be too much to ask for some Viera-excluse options? Oh, well I suppose we wouldn’t want to leave anyone out!

C’est la vie! That’s the Viera life. Will hats be in our future? Even the stars are uncertain, but we’ll continue to hope!
