Desynthing, Materia Extraction, and even Dyeing are all valuable skills to have. However, it’s a known fact that none of these activities are quite as effective as when you’re performing them next to a large gathering of people, particularly those in the middle of conversation or working near a summoning bell.

If you want to become a true materia extraction or desynthesis expert, follow this simple guide!

Step One: Learn Your Abilities!

Fresh adventurers can learn the technique of Materia Extraction from Swynbroes at The Bonfire in Central Thanalan. Desynthesis, on the other hand, is usually taught by Syntgoht at his stand in Ul’dah’s Steps of Thal, right at the Sapphire Avenue Exchange. So dreamy!

Step Two: Spiritbond and Item Acquisition!

You can’t just extract materia from any old thing. You have to build up a spiritbond with your gear! Once that bond reaches 100%, then you can extract all the materia, and start the cycle over again!

Desynthesis is a little different. You can desynthesize most items, so either buy some, craft some, or pick some up somehwere! We just need something to make noise with!

Step Three: Find a crowd!

Limsa Lominsa is a great place to just shove yourself into and get to work, but really you could go anywhere. So long as there are people, right? The main Hawkers’ Alley summoning bell is a great spot, but just outsite works too. Get creative!

Step Four: Extract and Desynth All the Things

Buzz Swish Pop! Look at that blinding light! If you planned ahead, you might even have dozens of items to desynth all at once! Congratulations, you made it! You’re now a paragon of your trade, and everyone will marvel at the sights and sounds of your talent!
